Where most Germans choose to live in Spain’s popular holiday regions – and their main motivations
Many Germans have settled across different parts of Spain, but certain areas are particularly popular among expatriates. Below are the regions with the largest German communities and the reasons why:
1. Balearic Islands (Mallorca): Mallorca is a top destination for Germans, especially retirees. The mild climate, stunning beaches, good flight connections to Germany and relaxed lifestyle make it an ideal place to live.
2. Costa Blanca: On Spain’s east coast, the Costa Blanca attracts many Germans thanks to its sunny weather, affordable housing, excellent healthcare and easy access from Germany.
3. Costa del Sol: The Costa del Sol in southern Spain is another hotspot. With its year-round mild climate, many golf courses and proximity to Málaga airport, it’s ideal for both living and investing.
4. Canary Islands: The Canary Islands, particularly Tenerife and Gran Canaria, are popular for their pleasant climate and lower cost of living.
5. Andalusia: Southern Spain’s Andalusia draws many Germans with its rich culture, history, cuisine and relaxed lifestyle in cities like Seville and Málaga.
6. Barcelona: Barcelona attracts young German professionals and students due to its culture, educational opportunities and international atmosphere.
The reasons Germans move to Spain are varied: great weather, lower living costs, quality of life, and the Mediterranean lifestyle make Spain a preferred destination for expatriates.
